August 9th saw the arrival of the much anticipated sculpture depicting a fisherwoman with  two people helping the creel into position. At the height of the herring trade, women carried fish for sale from Dunbar to Lauder in wicker creels  on their backs. The piece will sit in a paved garden in Victoria Street and guide visitors to the Harbours. The sculpture, which is made of sandstone and more than six-foot tall honours Dunbar’s fishing heritage and is the work of Cockenzie-based artist and mason Gardner Molloy. The Dunbar Harbour Gateway project has been funded by Viridor Credits & a private, local benefactor.
