DHT consultants produced a 2015 conditional survey and report of all the Dunbar Harbours which identified that repairs to the Cromwell Harbour wall were needed as a priority.

The most important work was the grouting of the wall core at four locations and the strengthening of both sides of the parapets.

In 2015 A G Thomson of Dunbar made an important start to these repairs which were funded by Marine Scotland.

During 2016 further grants have been made by Historic Environment Scotland, Viridor Credits  and Marine Scotland. Tenders were issued to three contractors during August and the successful contractor will be appointed in early October with works due to start on site in late October. Once this work has been completed the most sensitive parts of the Cromwell Harbour sea defences will have been repaired at a cost of over £140,000.
